Thespian Troupe 657

Troupe 657 was founded in 1945 by English teacher Grace Dawson, for whom our annual "Best Thespian" award is named. Since our chartering, over 1900 Greeley High and Greeley Central High students have become members, including numerous students who have gone on to become prominent Greeley citizens. Troupe membership is tendered to students who have participated in any capacity in a minimum of two plays at Central, and who have earned a minimum of 10 points. One point is awarded for each 10 hours of service.

At Greeley Central's Arts Magnet Theatre Program, we train students in methods of performance craft that follow a process-oriented approach, developing artists with the highest caliber of professionalism and skill. Our students are creageous, innovative, and value theatre as a community. Memorization Technique #1 - Flash Build

Step 1: Read the first line. Repeat the first line out loud. Say the first line without looking at it.

Step 2: Once you can say the first line without looking at the paper, read the first line and add the second line. Repeat the first and second lines out loud. Say the first and second lines without looking at the paper. Continue until you can say the first two lines, word for word, without looking at the paper multiple times.

Step 3: Read the first line, second line, and third line. Repeat the first, second and third lines out loud… Continue with this step pattern all the way through the piece.

SAMMY: I always worry that maybe people aren't going to like me, when I go to a party. Isn't that crazy? Do you ever get kind of a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach when you dread things? Gee, I wouldn't want to miss a party for anything. But every time I go to one, I have to reason with myself to keep from feeling that the whole world's against me. See, I've spent almost my whole life in the boarding schools. My father doesn't have a place for me, where he lives. He...he just doesn't know what else to do with me. But you mustn't misunderstand about my father. He's really a very nice person. I guess every girl thinks her father is handsome, but my father really is. He tells me in every letter he writes how sorry he is that we can't be together more, but he has to think of his work. One time we were together, though. He met me in San Francisco once, and we were together for two whole days. He took me to dinner and to a show and to dance. Just like we were sweethearts. It was the most wonderful time I ever had. And then I had to go back to the old boarding school. Every time I walk into the halls, I get kind of a depressed feeling. It's got hard stone walls. Pictures of matrons hanging all over...oh, they're very fine ladies, but they all look so kind of hard-boiled and stern...you know what I mean. Well, gee! I guess I've bored you enough, telling you about myself.
